COVID-19 is deepening gender gaps, reversing progress toward economic justice and diminishing women’s participation in public spaces.
CARE.org (US) ... As pandemic-driven health, social, economic, and hunger crises deepen across the globe, it is increasingly clear that COVID-19 is widening systemic inequalities that have long affected women, girls, and other people who face discrimination because of race and migration status. The efficacy of CARE’s and others’ COVID-19 responses depends on understanding how marginalized people are affected, in all their diversity, across contexts, and over time. Women’s needs are routinely overlooked without deliberate efforts to fill persistent gender data gaps. So we sought the advice of experts: women themselves.Mental health: One of the most striking differences is around mental health, where 27% of women reported this was a key impact of COVID-19—compared with only 10% of men. Women especially point to skyrocketing unpaid care burdens as a source of this stress, in addition to worries about livelihoods, food, and health care. The current responses are failing to stem economic crises, hunger, and social turmoil. It is past time to move from planning to accountability. Women and other marginalized groups—especially those affected by multiple forms of discrimination—must be part of designing the COVID-19 response. Only then can the world hope to achieve any semblance of recovery. CARE makes the following recommendations to inform a more equitable, effective COVID-19 response, and a more equal future for everyone:

Republicans used to trumpet the innovation of the American medical sector. Now they’re taking a meat axe to it.
Illustration by Akshita Chandra / The Atlantic. Source: Getty. ... Listen to more stories on the Noa app. Here’s a piece of Republican rhetoric that used to be ubiquitous but that you never hear anymore: America has the best health-care system in the world. We are the only OECD country that lacks universal coverage, and the failure to provide basic care to all citizens contributes to our mediocre health. But America really was among the best countries at producing cutting-edge treatments. Those of us who have access to health insurance benefit from high-level technology and a for-profit system that generates incentives for new drugs and devices. There is a reason wealthy patients with rare conditions sometimes travel to the U.S.Republican politicians liked this line because it helped them dismiss the idea that the system needed major reform. American health care at its finest offered the most advanced treatments anywhere. Democrats wanted to expand coverage, but why mess with perfection? In Donald Trump’s second term, Republicans haven’t given up their opposition to universal coverage—far from it—but they have mostly stopped singing the praises of American health-care innovation. Indeed, they are taking a meat axe to it, slashing medical-research funding while elevating quacks and charlatans to positions of real power.

Those who don’t experience it so often, pray for more caring in the world. And believe or not, I feel there are those who wish there wasn’t so much caring. I mean, do people really mean it when they say “you care too much”?When I hear someone say they care about me, there might be a quick question of “how much do they care?” and that is easily answered based up on the depth of our relationship. Maybe, the degree of caring is influenced by the event the other is concerned about for me.We care about others because we are social creatures. We can’t live in 100% isolation and not suffer some form of mental anguish over time. We form tight bonds with some, and not so much with others. We can care about the people we work with, be empathetic when they are experiencing challenges, and express other emotions as appropriate.

Our need to feel loved and cared for and to give love and care to others seems to be an innate human quality programmed into our DNA. Feeling loved and cared for gives us a feeling of security and self-worth. Caring for someone else gives us a sense of wholeness — it’s an extension of our love.
As good as it feels to care for someone or something, for many people it can also become a source of stress and emotional chaos that leaves them feeling mentally and emotionally drained. Which arises the question, is it possible to care too much?In most dictionaries the first definition of care is a burdened s · tate of mind; worry; concern. It takes several lines before some dictionaries get around to defining care as “to feel love for, to look after, provide for, attend to.” Many people feel that if they’re not worrying or obsessing over things it must mean that they’re not caring enough. It’s not that we care too much, but more that we don’t know how to manage our care. We think that somehow if we anguish over something enough we’ll get a creative solution or we’ll somehow conjure up the productive motivation we need to take action and resolve something.Worry and anxiety do not solve problems. It is when we finally release the worry, decide to sleep on it, or talk with a friend who helps us let the worry go that the answers finally come to us. Dr. Rozman says, “Balanced care is not some placid state that lacks drive and passion.

Caring what people think of you is natural and healthy, unless you start to violate your own principles in order to fit in or are regularly anxious about it.
It's definitely healthy to align yourself with the social order and to behave, at least publicly, in a manner that is conducive to building solid relationships. But there is certainly a point at which caring what others think becomes unhealthy. For the sake of our mental health, we have to be careful that we don't change our principles, core traits, or overall belief system in order to fit in.The short answer is this: if you are changing who you are as a person in order to please others or if you worry consistently and intensely about pleasing others, you most likely care too much about their opinions. As the world changes, so do the priorities of society.Caring what other people think of you is an important part of being a member of society. If no one cared at all about what others thought, the world would probably be a very dangerous and disturbing place to live.Even if you are being objective and you feel you should genuinely care about this person's opinion, ask yourself if making the necessary changes would be good for you. Even if someone you really care about is making accurate observations about your behavior, you shouldn't necessarily have to violate your own creed, faith, or principles to accommodate.
